A New York un vascello alla deriva approda nel porto, rischiando una collisione con altre navi. Due agenti della guardia costiera intervengono per controllare. I due entrano nel vascello, trovandolo in pessime condizioni igieniche, pieno di vermi e in stato di abbandono. Sotto coperta uno dei due agenti viene improvvisamente aggredito da un essere orribile, obeso e sfigurato, che sfonda la porta della cabina dove era stato rinchiuso. Il collega della vittima spara allo strano individuo, che scompare nelle acque del fiume…
